The White-crowned Wheatear is a species of passerine in the Muscicapidae family.

Desciption[]

A small bird, this species is mostly black, but has a white crown and has a white rump and tail, with a black rectangle, and black tips. First year birds lack the white crown.

Similar species[]

Abroad, Hooded Wheatear has a white chest and more white on the rump. The Black Wheatear no white crown.

Distribution/habitat[]

A rare vagrant to Britain, this species is found in north Africa, and inhabits dry habitats
