Identification[]

This is a left-sided flatfish with almost rectangular outline. It has rough scales on the upper surface with fine fur-like spines.

Breeding[]

English Channel populations breed during early spring.

Habitat[]

The Topknot inhabits rough ground, close inshore, where it uses suction to hold onto rocks.

This flatfish feeds on small fish and crustaceans.
