Using Wikipedia[]
One obvious question is, given the open access-cum-no copyright status of Wiki material, can we "cheat" by block copying articles from the English Wikipedia (some of which I have largely written) to this new Wiki? (One would, of course, then edit-out the non-GB applicable bits)—Grmanners 18:08, January 6, 2010 (UTC)
- We can use content from the english wiki as it is under wikias licensing!
- See Help:Copying from Wikipedia. The Psychology Wiki and Familypedia are two exemplary Wikia sites that are copying thousands of pages from Wikipedia and building on them. Best done using a bot. Discussing related policies and the best procedures could be better done on a forum because it has nothing to do with the wiki's main page. (Copy the whole of the Wikipedia page from its edit box so as to get all the links and categories and templates; then you can change the few that you may not want and delete the interwiki links. For some templates, you may be better to redirect to the Wikia versions and you may want to copy and extensively use Wikia's standard Template:Taxobox because it will facilitate copying of the corresponding material from Wikipedia.)— Robin Patterson (Talk) 13:23, April 2, 2010 (UTC)
Redirecting counter to search-engine optimisation ("SEO")[]
Why did you not leave the "article" name as it was after the standard move from "Main Page" to a meaningful name (as noted at the start of the page history)? Search engines take more notice of pages that have meaningful names repeating important words in the text. I suggest that you could move it to "British Wildlife" so as to have the two really important words without repetition of the less important word "wiki". (Unless, of course, you don't want anyone to find this wiki.) Somehow this talk page is on the originally-moved name! Not a problem. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 13:23, April 2, 2010 (UTC)
