The Small Dotted Buff (Photedes minima) is a species of moth in the Noctuidae family.

Description[]

This rather small macro moth is a straw coloured species, with it's wings held back flat across the abdomen. There is often two dotted crosslines, one on the upper half which is mostly straight, and one near the outer edge, curving around a single dot. Some specimens can be tinged red. Males are larger than females. They fly in July.

Habitat & Distribution[]

This species inhabits grasslands, marshes and some woodlands, and is fairly widespread in Britain, and is fairly frequent.

Larvae[]

Larvae feed on Tufted Hair-grass and can be seen from August till the next June.
