The Small Autumnal Carpet (Epirrita filigrammaria) is a moth in the family Geometridae.

Description[]

The most distinct of the Epirrita species, and flies earlier than the other four species. This species is generally the smallest of the four, but there is some overlap, so this is not a distinguishing feature. This species is generally darker than Autumnal Moth too, and often has distinct banding across the wings. This species flies from August on till September.

Range & Habitat[]

This species is Endemic to Britain, being found in Northern and Central Britain and Ireland. This species is most common on moorland.

Larvae[]

The larvae are active from April to May, and feeds mainly of heather & sallows.
