The Praying Mantis (Mantis relogiosa) is a species of insect in the Mantidae family.

The only British representive of this family, this species is a very rare vagrant to Britain, with one record. Almost 10cm in length, the males are smaller than the females. This species is usually bright green, but is sometimes brown. Found in southern Europe, this species has large front legs which have evolved for hunting pray, and have a quick, vice-like grip. If disturbed, this species will raise it's front legs, which have two black spots on them.
