The New Forest Pony is a rare breed of pony that has been roaming wild for thousands of years, and is indiginous to Hampshire and Southern England. The earliest written record of their existence dates back to 1016, when rights of common pasture were granted to the people living in what was then a royal hunting ground. Like all wild British ponies, they are owned by the local people, but they are still wild animals.

Characteristics[]

Size:122-148 cm.

Colour: Mainly bay, chestnut or grey, but can be any other colours as well (except for piebald, skewbald or cremello).

New Forest ponies are one of the most approachable of all the wild native pony breeds, probably due to their history of frequent contact with humans.
