The Large Tortoiseshell (Nymphalis polychloros) is a species of buttefly in the Nymphalidae family.

Now a vagrant to Britain, this species was once common in southern Britain, but then declined massively, and is now extinct as a breeding species in Britain.

Similar to the Small Tortoiseshell, this species is much duller, and slightly larger. With orange-brown wings with black markings, this species also has blue markings near the edge of the hindwing.
