The Coronet (Craniophora ligustri) is a species of moth in the Noctuidae family.

Description[]

This medium sized moth is quite colourful,

often being purple and white in colour. There is usually a white blotch on the outer half of the forewing, but this is not always prescent, though the forms lacking the blotch are less frequent. The oval and lower half of the kidney mark are a chalky white. The thorax is often white. This species flies in Summer.

Distribution[]

This species is local in Britain, inhabiting woodlands, scrubs, grasslands, as well as other habitats, and is often found in gardens.

Larvae[]

The larvae usually feed on Ash and Privet, and can be seen from July till September.
