Using Wikipedia[]
One obvious question is, given the open access-cum-no copyright status of Wiki material, can we "cheat" by block copying articles from the English Wikipedia (some of which I have largely written) to this new Wiki? (One would, of course, then edit-out the non-GB applicable bits)—Grmanners 21:21, January 6, 2010 (UTC)
Language[]
Can you change the default language (for spell-checking) to British English? Thanks - Grmanners 21:44, January 6, 2010 (UTC)
Problems Solved[]
Copying[]
Im not sure if we can copy it word for word although i have in parts of articles, the best thing to do is change it a little. I know Wikia has the rights to let us use Wiki pictures, if youve written the article then there's no reason why i think that we can't use it.--TheWWC 10:19, January 7, 2010 (UTC)
- You should both read Help:Copying from Wikipedia and my expansion of the answer on Talk:British Wildlife Wiki. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 13:41, April 2, 2010 (UTC)
Spell check[]
I will sort out the spell checker problem shortly for you!Wikia does not have a spell checker so i have found a solution straight from their website!
In Firefox: Go to the Tools menu, select Options... Choose the Advanced tab, the General sub-tab, and in the Browsing option group, check the box for "Check my spelling as I type". Then that will spell check everything for you, or you could write something up in word first and then paste it in! --TheWWC 10:19, January 7, 2010 (UTC)

Some more "basic" questions[]
I was sure that I posted a message on this subject yesterday, but I can neither find it nor a response to it... :-(
Anyway, here are my "basic" questions for BWW:
- Who is the target audience? For example, is BWW to be encyclopaedic (like Wikipedia) or (at the other extreme) to be in child-friendly language and presentation?
- Is there a template for pages? See, e.g., my template for Lepidoptera on the English Wikipedia
- Do you want redirects from alternative English names and scientific names?
- Do you want lists, e.g., of species groups? If so, what levels do you want them at, e.g., by country, by county, by site? See, e.g., List of butterflies of Great Britain on Wikipedia
- What is the proposed geographical coverage of BWW? E.g., UK (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, IoM, ± Channel Islands); GB (England, Scotland, Wales); British Isles (UK + Irish Republic ± Channel Islands)
Many thanks

Answers[]
The Coverage to the BWW is the whole of the British isles, the target audience is for everyone but we will need child friendly language so no curse words etc. There are templates and if you need the links to em , go to the special pages link [1] There are templates under a link there. Redirects may be useful but not yet until we get more articles and more users. If you need anything more feel free to ask!--TheWWC 14:45, January 9, 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, TheWWC, but the link provided adds a new section to this page rather than going to the templates—Grmanners 16:01, January 9, 2010 (UTC)
