The African Grey Parrot (Psittacus erithacus) is a species of bird in the Psittacidae family.

This species is often kept as a pet, an though they usually live their life as pets, some escape or are released into Britain. These parrots, originating from Africa, are grey, and some forms have a red tail, though some don't. Some forms which are selectively bred have a larger proportion of red, and some are entirely red.

They are very intelligent birds, managing to solve problems and mimic a whole range of sounds. Their owners often teach them to speak and sing songs. They have very strong beaks which they use to crack open nuts and seeds.
